On Thursday this week we will celebrate International Dot Day. The students will participate in a livestream event in the afternoon. We will read the story The Dot, by Peter Reynolds and the children will each make their own dot. For anyone who has been afraid to express themselves - from a child in art class to an adult whose fear has shut down a long-held dream, Peter H. Reynolds' book The Dot (Candlewick Press) is there to remind us all to "Make your mark, and see where it takes you."
Friday is our school opening Mass at 9am. You are welcome to join us.
In Religion we are working on Chapter 1, reviewing basic prayers, and the Works of Mercy.
Also on Friday the students will have a test on Reading Unit 1. An information page for unit 1 was given out last week. Each week the students will receive an information sheet so that you know what they are working on each week. The students may leave this paper in their folder or someplace safe at home for the week. The test is on story comprehension, phonics, grammar, and spelling.
In Math we are working on addition and subtraction concepts, how they are related and story problems. Our test on Unit 1 will be on September 20th.
This year I’m having my class participate in an online project called the, Poet Tree Project. Each month we will learn about a different type of poetry. We will write poems, memorize poems, read and discuss poems, and connect with other classrooms to share poems. Our first Skype will be with a school in California at the end of the month.
I will be putting all of the student’s passwords for the different websites we will be using in the back of the homework copybook. If you need any help accessing them please let me know.
