We have had several fun projects taking place in 3rd grade this Spring. Last month the children finished up a unit on the Ten Commandments by creating a new product that would help them keep a certain Commandment. They then created a commercial for that product and presented it in class. Another project we are working on is blogging. The children each have a Kidblog where they share their writing and other digital projects. We recently connected with two global classrooms: Mrs. Beara's class in New Zealand and Mr. Ball's class from the UK. All 3 classes are writing posts using the 100 Word Challenge weekly writing prompt and we are reading and commenting on each other's blogs. We have also mailed out Flat Friends to each of these classrooms and we will be receiving Flat Friends from them as well. Once we get them, we will take photos around school and home and post them on our Kidblog to share information about ourselves, our school and our country with the other 2 classes. They will do the same with our Flat Friends. We are excited to learn about these children and their countries! We are also hoping that we can culminate this project by having a Skype with each of these classrooms at the end of the year to speak to them in person. With the New Zealand class, that would mean coming into school at night. Be on the look out for more information on that later in the year. Another fun project that we did last week was another Breakout Edu which is an escape the classroom type of game. The topic was forces and the children had to work together to solve puzzles to unlock the box. Congratulations to the 2 teams that solved the puzzles and broke out in the 45 minutes allotted! We ended that fun activity by watching the forces at work when we put Mentos candy into diet soda. Check out the photos below of these fun Spring activities! Next month, the students will be working on a Famous Person project and coming to school dressed as that historical figure.
