Next week we begin Terra Nova testing. On Thursday we will take a few practice tests and we begin regular testing on Friday, February 26th through Friday, March 4th. The students will take one subject area test each morning and have regular class the rest of the day. Please make sure that your child has 2-3 new, sharpened #2 pencils by next Thursday. They should also bring in something to do after the test like a book to read or color. We could use some scrap paper for the Math sections if anyone has any at home they could send in. You can help your child do better on these tests by making sure they get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast.
Don't forget that students can earn a free ticket to Six Flags Great Adventure by taking part in their Read to Succeed program. The children need to read for 6 hours and fill out the form I gave them last month. If you need another form just let me know. Please have the forms in to me by the end of February. That reading can also count for our school Winter Reading Challenge. We were in the lead at one point but we have slipped down a few spaces now. Students can submit books read for that challenge HERE. I am going to go light on the homework during Terra Nova testing week so that will give the children plenty of time to read and catch up on these challenges. I will be submitting a Scholastic Book Order next weekend so please have your orders in online or in school by Friday, February 26th.
Have you noticed the new Long Term Calendar on the 3rd grade website? That will help you to know what tests are coming up in our classroom with just a quick glance. Be sure to also check the Homework Calendar to see nightly assignments and the posts below the calendar section for photos and other detailed information.
If you haven't looked at our Kidblogs recently, be sure to check them out! We are taking part in the 100 Word Challenge Writing Prompt on there a few times a month as well as posting classroom iPad activities. Feel free to leave your child a comment if you see something you like. We just got paired up with Mr. Holder's Year 3/4 students in Stourbridge, England to visit each other's blogs and exchange comments. We are looking forward to learning more about their school and country through blogging!
