On Thursday the students did a Stem activity in which they worked in teams to build a tower. Each team was given 12 inches of foil and 12 inches of masking tape. The question they asked themselves was - How can I build the tallest tower? First they talked about designs and did some sketches and then they got to work. Along the way they kept track of any problems they ran into and how they tried to solve it. They were given about 30 minutes to work on this task. I was very proud of them for how well they worked together. They were respectful of each others' ideas and tried to incorporate everyone's designs somehow. A few groups ended up manipulating the foil too much so their tower wouldn't stand up. Again, I was proud of them for not getting upset or frustrated about it. They laughed it off and used it as a learning experience for the future. Olivia and Drew's tower ended up being the tallest at 39 cm. See below for photos and some video.
