As the school year winds down to a close, I wanted to keep you informed about some important happenings in 3rd grade. First off, just a quick reminder about the May Procession on Thursday, 5/11. The students will meet me in the classroom at 6:45 pm in their uniform. For the Spring Musical on Monday, 5/15, they will meet me in Church at 6:45 pm. They need to wear a black shirt and jeans for the Spring Show and they should wear it to school that day too. Famous Person Day is Thursday, May 18th. The children should come to school dressed as their famous person and be prepared to give a few memorized facts about them. Thank you for all of the home pictures with Flat Stanley!
The children in England and New Zealand are enjoying them. Unfortunately, our Stanley's have not arrived in their schools yet even though I mailed them on Holy Thursday 3 weeks ago. Please say a prayer that they arrive soon. You can see our photos on Kidblog and find links to the other schools' blogs there as well.
Secondly, in celebration of our upcoming 25th wedding anniversary, my family and I are taking a trip Italy at the end of this month. I will be out of school from May 23rd until June 2nd. I am very happy that Mrs. Nancy Filosa, our retired Kindergarten teacher, will be the substitute. Mrs. Filosa was recently the long term substitute for Mrs. Murphy in PreK4 so she is very familiar with the workings of our school this year. She will have her own school email address. You can contact her at email@example.com with any daily information. I will be checking my emails sporadically while I am away. Mrs. Filosa will also post homework on the 3rd grade calendar like I usually do.
Exams will be given the week of June 5th so I will be here to give them. The children will not have exams for Science and Social Studies. They will have one more Chapter test in each of those subjects that will be given by Mrs. Filosa the week after Memorial Day. The 3rd grade exam schedule is listed below. I will be giving them a study guide before I leave. The students will also be doing several practice worksheets in class that will give you an idea of what the exam questions might look like. Keep an eye out for those to come home in their folder the week beforehand.
Grade 3 Exam Schedule
Monday, June 5th - Reading
Tuesday, June 6th - Religion
Wednesday, June 7th - Math
Thursday, June 8th - ELA
One last piece of information that I'd like to share is an invitation to attend our End of the Year Party and Plays. The students will be performing a few short Reader's Theater type plays for the parents on Wednesday, June 14th in the school cafeteria starting at 2:15 pm. After the short show, we will have a little social with food. Field Day is on Tuesday of that week, June 13th, so be on the lookout for information about that.
Please keep an eye on our 3rd grade calendar and website for any additional information. Thanks again for your continued help and support as we close up a wonderful year!
