We completed our 100 book challenge! I’m so proud of the kids for working hard and reading so many books! Now on to 200!! This week we started multiplication. We made “Array City”, an array turkey, and we worked an equal grouping and multiplication sentences with our “herd” of 3rd graders (3A included 😁) We also had a fun Science assembly on CSI, where our very own Haley and Jack were picked to participate solve the crime. They did a fantastic job!
This week in 3B, we had a lot of fun with learning! We wrote our own subtraction word problems and had all of our friends solve them. We were able to use an iPad and a QR code to help check our answers. We also played a new review game on Quizlet. They work in teams to answer different vocabulary words or grammar cards. They kids loved it!! We are also starting to use an online website for our reading logs to make it easier for the students and parents. The kids had a great time exploring the website. They can add books to their wishlist, check off which books they have already read, and recommend books to their classmates.
Third grade had an amazing time making Peace Cranes for international peace day. We cannot wait to find a school to exchange them with. We had a wonderful time learning about St Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament at the Shrine this Friday. They were all very respectful and asked some smart questions to learn more about our wonderful Saint. In the afternoon we completed our Oreo stacking challenge you can find pictures of the kids stacking their Oreo towers and there's some videos of them falling down. Thank you so much for sending in the packs of Oreos the kids had a blast doing this experiment!
I can't believe we are already a month into school! The children are doing a fantastic job getting settled into the routines and work load in third grade. We have been having a wonderful time working on our map projects in Social Studies and the kids are very excited to do our Oreo stacking challenge this week in Science. You can stay up to date on the fun things we are doing in school by looking at the photos on our website. For International peace day we folded origami cranes with messages of peace written on them. We were hoping to exchange them with a class in South Africa but that didn't work out, so we are looking for another international class.
This Friday we will be going on our field trip the the St. Katherine Drexel Shrine. We will leave school at 9:30 am and return to school by 12:30 pm for lunch back at school. The children will have time to shop in the gift shop, so they may bring some money to use in the store. If you would like to send money for your child to shop, please put it in an envelope with their name on it. I will hold all of the money and pass it out to the children when it's our turn at the store.
Our first Science test will be next week on the 3 states of Matter and the Water Cycle. The children have filled out study guide/chapter review packets which they have brought home in their folder. They should begin reviewing those guides now to help with review work we will be doing at school. I will be posting a link on google classroom to an online Quizlet to help them study the vocabulary words. A good way to study at home is to review the questions at the end of each lesson and to go over the chapter review.
Thanks again for all of your help and support at home!
Math review space race game, Blue team with the win! We also started our amusement park map project this week. The kids are very excited and have a lot of ideas! This week our class celebrated peace day by making peace cranes to exchange with a school in South Africa. We discussed how to spread peace and love throughout the world and wrote our ideas on our cranes.
