These upcoming weeks will be very busy, so I wanted to let you know what will be going on in our classroom. The first trimester will be coming to an end this Friday and report cards will go out on December 8th. Parent Teacher conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, December 12th. Please keep an eye on the school communication for information about how to sign up for a conference through Option C. Our class has been working very hard on perfecting their cursive writing using their handwriting notebooks, I know how lovely they can write their words so I would like to have all work be written in cursive coming into this new trimester. Please remind your children of this if they forget when doing homework. In Math we are working on multiplication. We have learned the following sets of times tables: 0, 1, 2, 5, 9, and 10. After we finish this chapter, we will move on to Charts and Graphs while continuing to memorize a new set of times tables every few weeks. I have stapled the times tables into their notebooks and there is also a link on their google classroom to multiplication song videos to help them with the new multiplication facts we will be learning. Please have them practice for 5 - 10 minutes at home each night along with the other regular homework. It will help them to memorize their times tables especially as we get into division in the months to come. We have also started doing a daily Math Maintenance quiz. The children do one row on each side of the paper each day to keep sharp on skills we aren't currently working on. At the end of the next trimester, I will average up all of these quizzes into one test grade.
We have filled our row of our hundreds chart with good behavior! The kids have been working very hard in school and they have earned their reward day. We will be having a reward period tomorrow Thursday, November 30th. The students have voted on free time on their electronic devices. Please have them bring in any device they would like, if it is a hand held game device please be sure the games are school appropriate. They can use their chrome books as well. This Friday, December 1st, is a paid dress down day for a $1.00 or more donation.
Our Christmas show is Monday, December 11th. The children are asked to dress up in red, green and white dress clothing. They will also wear those clothes to school that day for our dress rehearsal in the afternoon. On Monday night you will drop the children off in the Church before heading to your seats in the auditorium. Keep an eye on the homework calendar for an exact time but it's usually about 6:45 pm. Since they will be sitting in Church waiting for their turn to sing, the kids can bring card games, coloring books or other small items to keep them busy.
Finally, Mrs. Schmidt and I have spoken with our school counselor about doing Friendship/Conflict Resolution classes with the 3rd grade. Mrs. Megan Giampaolo will meet with each class once a week on Tuesdays to discuss these topics and give the students suggestions for how to handle school yard conflicts and how to be a better friend.
Please sign and return the permission slip that will come home this week by Monday, December 4th so we can get started next Tuesday.
Don't forget to keep checking our classroom calendar and website for news! We received Peace cranes from Canada this week and we are scheduled to Skype with an author this Thursday.
I hope you all had a relaxing Thanksgiving break and had a wonderful time celebrating with your families.
