I wanted to let you know that Mrs. Brennan and I have planned a joint field trip. On Tuesday, April 4th, the 3rd and 4th grades will be spending the day at Longwood Gardens. The children will have free time to explore the grounds as well as taking part in a directed program to learn about using Science in the garden during the process of pollution. In order to give us enough time for everything, we will be leaving school at 8:00 am by bus. Students will need to arrive at school by 7:45 am that day. They can wear gym uniforms and should pack a disposable lunch. We will return to school in time for dismissal. Because of the Home and School subsidy of $20 per student, the cost for this trip is only $5.00 per student which will be billed through Option C. I will need 4 parent chaperones to come along with us. If you would like to volunteer, please send me a message by Monday, February, 13th. If I get too many volunteers, I will draw 4 names out of a hat. The cost for each chaperone is $25.00 which will also go through Option C. I will be sending home a permission slip shortly.
Thank you again to all of those who helped make Catholic Schools Week such a success! Don't forget to check out our 3rd grade website for a few new posts with pictures of all of our fun activities including the Spirit Assembly, making oobleck, and reading to our PreK-3 buddies.
I wanted to also share some exciting news about an upcoming Skype with an author. Today I was able to schedule a Skype with author K.E. Rocha (Kristin). Miss Rocha writes the Bearhaven series of books. We are going to Skype with her on Wednesday, March 1st to learn more about her books and the writing process. The students and I are very excited! You might want to check out her books and order some when I send home the Scholastic Book order form this month. It is so nice of Miss Rocha to do this for free because many authors charge anywhere from $100 - $250 for a Skype.
Just a gentle reminder about the Test Folder that comes home on Wednesdays. All of the work in that Test Folder needs to be returned to school the next day. Sometimes I send home projects with rubrics like the recent Social Studies timeline. I like you to see both the project and the rubric at the same time so you can see where I might have taken off points. Just sign the rubric and send both items back to school in the folder. Some times parents are keeping projects at home and I have other plans for them in school, like displaying them in the hallway. If the project is something that the students can keep at home, it will go home in the Home Folder.
Finally, I wanted to share that our 3rd grade will soon be taking part in a global project called If You Learned Here. We will be working with other schools around the world to compile an eBook that shares information about our schools. After viewing that eBook, we will generate questions which will be asked and answered with video messages using a website/app call Flipgrid. Keep an eye on our 3rd grade website next month for more information and links to the eBook and video messages once we get started.
Thank you again for sharing your special children with me each day!
