Wednesday- Reading Olympics Competition
Friday- Field Trip to Philadelphia Museum of Art
Dear 5th Grade Families,
The fifth graders did an excellent job in preparing last Friday's Mass: the readers, gift bearers, and ministers of hospitality. Congratulations as well to Braeden and Marissa who were recognized as the disciples of the month for March. For the month of April, we will be recognizing two students who demonstrate love for neighbor.
Thank you to Mrs. Cain, Mrs. Falkenstein, and Mrs. Stauff for organizing a fun Easter/New Life party this past Friday.
Below are the arrangements for Friday's field trips as well as Wednesday's Reading Olympics competition.
Have a great week!
Art Museum Trip (April 17th)
On Friday, we will depart the Yardley Train station on the 8:53 AM (#3421) train. If you are not chaperoning, I will be at the station by 7:45 AM, and you may drop your child off at the shelter on the Reading Avenue side by 8:25 AM.
If you are chaperoning, parking is 1.00 (quarters only); I recommend parking on the opposite side of the station by the VFW/Yardley Kids Academy. Please be at the station by 8:25 AM. When you arrive, I will give you a packet with your train tickets and information for the day.
We are scheduled to arrive at 30th Street station at 10:04 AM. We will then exit to the SEPTA concourse to the Amtrak concourse, cross 30th Street, proceed across the Schuylkill River via JFK boulevard, and take the stair case on the other side of the bridge to the Schuylkill River Trail for a 20 minute walk to the museum. We will arrive at the front, climb the steps, and enter the museum. From 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM we have an Art and Language Arts program. During the program, two of the chaperones are allowed to accompany the class (per museum policy) and the others may explore the museum. Then, we will have lunch from 12:30 PM-1:00 PM (brown bag) and explore the museum in groups from 1:00 PM until about 2:00 PM. At 2:00 PM, we will meet on the front steps of the museum and walk back to the station for the 2:52 (#6358) train. We will arrive back in Yardley at 3:54 PM. The students may be picked up on other side of the train station (near the VFW/Yardley Kids Academy).
The students need to pack a bagged lunch. A small bag (drawstring) may be brought to contain a water bottle and camera (optional). The students may bring money for the museum shop or to purchase water for the train ride home, but this is completely at your discretion. The dress is summer uniform with sneakers for walking.
Reading Olympics Competition:
The Reading Olympics competition will take place on Wednesday, April 15th. The competition will be at St. Jude School in Chalfont, PA. All of the Catholic schools in the area will be there; the reason for the change in venue is that all of the public schools competed this past week, which was the week for Terra Nova testing. St. Jude volunteered to host the competition because of this schedule conflict.
Immediately after school, we will gather for group pictures followed by pizza at 4:00 PM. Parents, please arrive at school by 4:30 PM so that we can be ready to depart St. Ignatius no later than 4:40 PM in order to arrive by 5:40 PM; the first round will begin promptly at 6:00 PM. Each team should report to their first round room when you arrive at the school. Here are the room assignments for our two teams:
Reading Rhinos (Mrs. O'Neill): 200, 202, 203
St. Ignatius Teal Turtles (Mr. Merrick): 105, 104, 104
After the three rounds, the awards ceremony will take place in the final round's classroom with the competition being over by about 9:00 PM. Siblings are welcome to attend the competition; only water is permitted in the school building.
On Wednesday, the students should wear their Reading Olympics t-shirt and school uniform (pants, shorts, skort, or skirt).
