I hope that you are all had an enjoyable weekend.
Congratulations to Alex and Neil who were recognized as our Disciples of the Month for March; the virtue for April is justice.
We finished the book Dear Mr. Henshaw this past week, and we are working on writing letters to our favorite authors. I will not be assigning any homework or reading over Easter Break; we will start the book Number the Stars by Lois Lowry (our 9th book as a class!) when we return to school next week.
Click here for the field trip packet for Friday, April 21st's trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Chaperones will receive their packet and tickets the morning of the trip. I will be at the train station for drop off beginning at 7:30 AM; all students and chaperones need to by at the station by 7:55 AM. Parking is 1.00 (payable in quarters) for chaperones who will be parking at the station.
Though we will be together for just about the entire trip, I separated the students into small groups for the purpose of a chaperone (or chaperones) keeping track of each student. Groups may combine together when we are self touring, and we will take our guided tour either as a whole class or split into two groups (it depends on the guide(s) who are giving the tour.
Unfortunately, the main steps of the art museum (facing the Parkway) are closed (for construction of the stage for the NFL Draft), but we will be able to have snack at the top of the stairs.
We will be attending the 9:00 AM Mass on Tuesday for Lent. The students will also have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during our Penance Service at 1:15 PM on Tuesday. I will review the form for confession that morning.
Wednesday is a noon dismissal; CARES will be in session from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Classes will resume on Wednesday, April 19th.
Click here for information about our annual Trivia Night on Saturday, April 22nd. Babysitting is available in the school that evening (we use the gym to play and then watch a movie in the 5th grade classroom), and all proceeds will support the Fr. McCafferty Scholarship Fund.
Save the date for Barnes and Noble Night on Wednesday, April 26th. The flyer can be found here. Summer reading books will be available for purchase, reading by teachers, cupcake decorating and more. You can order cupcakes (due April 21st) using the electronic form here.
Please be sure to visit the 5th Grade page of the school website for copies of the newsletter, photos, forms, homework, and the assessment calendar. Your child's religion, ELA, and social studies assessment folder can be found here: Assessment Link 2020
I hope that you all have a prayerful Holy Week and a Blessed Easter. Have a great week!
