Welcome to 5th grade! I enjoyed my fifth grade year so much that I knew from that point on that I wanted to become a fifth grade teacher, and I will do everything that I can to make sure that your children have a great year.
A comprehensive guide the 5th grade year at St. Ignatius, as well as my classroom policies and procedures, can be found in the 5th Grade Overview. The class schedule (we will start on Tuesday with religion and ELA) can be found here.
Each Sunday, I will email and post to the class website a newsletter with information on the upcoming week. It is also important to check the5th Grade Page of the school website for daily homework, the long term calendar (which includes tests and projects), and electronic copies of paper forms that I have sent home. There is also a link to Google Classroom which the students will use to submit any assignments that they complete electronically as well as where I will post electronic resources (including a PDF and MP3 version of the Storytown story for the week). Mrs. O'Neill will assist the students with logging-in during their first technology class.
I will do my best to keep you informed of everything that is going on in school; if anything changes, I will email you during the week. Please feel free to email me at anytime if you have any questions. If you have any questions or concerns that pertain to a specific subject, please reach out to that individual teacher. As your child's homeroom teacher, though, I am here to keep you informed and to advocate for you and your child with the other teachers and administration, so please do not hesitate to contact me (email@example.com) or (215-493-3867 x11).
Meet Your Teacher Day is tomorrow from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. If you can make it, you are welcome to come in to meet the teachers, drop off school supplies, and pick up your handwriting and religion workbooks to be covered with contact paper. I also have the assignment books and two copies of the class schedule, and some St. Ignatius absence/transportation notes on each desk. The take-home folders are in the students' mailboxes.
The first day of school is on Tuesday. Students may be dropped off anytime from 8:15 AM (before that, students need to go to CARES in the PreK-3 Classroom). The drop off procedure for car-line is here. If you come by car, please make sure your child is dropped off and in the classroom by 8:25 AM so that we can begin the morning.
It is very important that you send in a note whenever your child needs to change his or her mode of transportation as well as after an absence. To make this easier, you can download and use the form on the school homepage here, if you'd like.
If you have not already done so, please let me know whether I should order an adult small or adult medium DARE shirt for your child. The DARE shirt will be worn on Tuesdays (along with the uniform pants or skirt), once DARE begins, as well as for DARE graduation in January. We will also be having a parent meeting with Officer Omlor (the tentative date is Thursday, September 17th at 7:00 PM in the 5th grade classroom).
Please make sure to pack a lunch; the lunch program will begin on Tuesday, September 8th. The students also have a morning snack break, each day, after 2nd period (10:06 AM-10:16 AM).
Back to School Night is on Wednesday (September 2nd) evening; the night begins at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium, which will be followed by sessions in the school building. The 5th-8th grade homeroom teachers will be discussing homeroom-specific information that night; presentations about individual subjects will be the following Tuesday.
The students will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at 1:30 PM on Thursday; we will review the form that morning in religion class.
On Tuesday September 8th, at 7:00 PM, there will be a parent meeting for 5th-8th grade parents where you will have the opportunity to follow a modified version of your child's schedule. You will move from class to class where you will hear from each of the teachers.
Our opening liturgy will be on Friday, September 11th at 9:00 AM in the Church; please join us if you are able to do so.
There is no school on Friday, September 4th or Monday, September 7th for the Labor Day weekend.
Have a great week!
