I hope that you all have had an enjoyable weekend. Congratulations to Isabelle and Grant who were recognized as our Disciples of the Month for November. The virtue for December is hope.
Our fifth graders have given back to our school at November and December's Home and School Events. Thank you so much to AJ, Isabelle, Julia, and Ruari for their help with Lunch with Santa, and thank you to Grant and Liam for their work at Turkey Bingo.
We will be shopping at Santa's Secret Shop on Tuesday afternoon from 12:40 PM until 1:25 PM. A copy of the shopping list can be found here. I explained to the 5th graders that purchasing gifts for their kindergarten buddies is optional. They may if they would like, and I will give them time to exchange. We will all be making Christmas cards, and we will all present the kindergartners with a card and Christmas stickers before Christmas vacation.
Tuesday evening is the parish Advent Gift Giving Mass at 7:00 PM.
Report cards will be on Friday. When you receive the report card, please sign and return the envelope; you may keep the actual report card. An electronic copy of the report card will also be available on OptionC.
The students will have their dress down day & popcorn, pizza, and movie party for their Box Tops prize on Friday, December 8th.
Friday, December 8th, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation. We will learn about the feast as well as attend the 9:00 AM Mass that Friday. St. Ignatius Parish also has Mass at 7:00 PM on Thursday and 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM on Friday.
Conferences will be held on Tuesday, December 12th. There is no school for students on that day. All scheduling will be completed through OptionC. If you can not make the December 12th times and wish to schedule a conference at a later date or via telephone, you can coordinate directly with the individual teachers. I can talk before or after school as well as over the phone after school.
The fifth grade class will be singing O Come, All Ye Faithful at the Christmas Concert on Monday, December 11th. For concert, the students need to dress up in their Christmas best. The students should wear these clothes to school on Monday, December 11th, for the 1:00 PM dress rehearsal and the 7:00 PM performance that evening. The students need to be dropped off in the Church that evening by 6:45 PM.
For the Liturgical Season of Advent, we will be attending the 9:00 AM Mass on Wednesdays with the kindergarten class. We will also be participating in a service project where we will assembly breakfast bags for the elderly and homeless. The shelters and our parish Aid for Friends program are in need of breakfast kits to provide those in need with a meal to start the day.
During the month of December, we will have a collection box in the front of the classroom. Items that we need include: mini boxed cereal, oatmeal packets, dried fruit packages, plastic fruit cups, tea bags, instant coffee bags, etc. Please have all contributions in by Monday, December 18th. We will assemble the kits that week.
DARE Taking a Stand projects are due on Wednesday, December 13th.
The 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Six Flgs Read to Succeed program. Any 5th graders who read six or more hours (outside of school) and log it by February 26th, 2018 will receive a ticket to Six Flags Great Adventure. To participate, please return this reading log by the due date.
Please be sure to visit the 5th grade page of the school website; on that page you will find the homework and long term assignment calendars, and pictures.
Have a great week!
