Dear 5th Grade Families,
Congratulations to our science fair winners: Stephen (1st), Braeden (2nd), Jay (3rd), and Henry (Honorable Mention). I am very proud of the work that all of the students put into their projects, and I was also impressed when I evaluated their written work.
The fifth grade won the Student Council's contest to see which class wore the most green on St. Patrick's Day. Thank you to Marissa who represented us in the final round and beat out representatives from the other two classes which wore a lot of green.
Please remember that Friday is a full day of school to make up for a snow day.
Terra Nova testing continues this week. The schedule for the week is as follows:
Friday: Social Studies
Please make sure (though the students usually do anyway) to bring a snack as there will be snack and restroom breaks in between sections. I told the students to do their best but not be nervous. The testing is important, but one of many measures that we use utilize to evaluate student learning. Therefore, I reminded them to get a good night's rest and eat a good breakfast, but that these practices should not be exclusive to Terra Nova week, but done to prepare for each school day.
We will be traveling to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Thursday, April 23rd and to the Cathedral Basilica/Reading Terminal Market on Monday June 8th. If you are interested in joining us as a chaperone on one or both of the trips, please let me know. I would like to have at least seven per trip since we will be taking the train from Yardley. Chaperones are required to have all of their clearances up to date, so letting me know as soon as possible will allow me to check them or have you apply for them with plenty of time. Permission slips and details should be out by next week's newsletter.
I am working on putting together the details for the Reading Olympics competition on April 15th. If your child is participating, please send me his or her t-shirt size (youth or adult and small, medium, or large) so that I can place the order this week. Since we are competing in Chalfont at St. Jude School, there are still some arrangements that need to be made since we are traveling further than previous years, but I will send an email out soon with more information.
Have a great week!
