Dear 5th Grade Families,
My hope is that we have seen the last of snow days for the school year and that you all had an enjoyable weekend.
Even though we now have school on Monday, there will be no Reading Olympics; we will resume meeting next Monday.
This Wednesday, we will be attending the 9:00 AM Mass, and I invite you to join us.
We will tentatively be attending Mass on Friday in place of last week's Mass for the First Friday of March; we will also be recognizing two Disciples of the Month for demonstrating hope. The virtue for March is Love of God. The 5th graders will be preparing April's Mass on Friday, April 10th. I will let you know in an addendum as to whether or not we will be attending on Friday.
This week we will be reading at the Stations of the Cross this Friday at 2:00 PM; the readers received their station number and a booklet last Wednesday. We will practice in class, and the students should practice at home as well.
Our school nurse, Mrs. Eileen Cipa, will be giving a presentation and discussing growth & development and hygiene with the 5th graders on Wednesday afternoon. She will give separate presentations to the boys and the girls that morning. Please return the permission form by tomorrow indicating whether or not you would like your child to participate. Her contact information is on the form if you have any questions; the form is also posted on the 5th grade page of the school website.
We will be going to Notre Dame on Thursday to see Les Miserables on Thursday morning. I will send home the permission forms tomorrow (please return them by Wednesday). The students will need to pack a lunch for Thursday, but we will be eating when we return to school.
Tomorrow, we will work on shifting and finalizing the due dates for the business letter and church project as well as rescheduling the reading theme test and last week's spelling test. The religion test on the liturgical colors will be given on Tuesday as planned. Once we finish negotiating the dates for the above assignments/assessments, I will update the long term calendar.
The deadline for the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program has been extended to March 10th. If your child has read six or more hours (outside of school and not for school work) since September, he or she may fill out the log on the 5th grade page of the school website and return it to me. As long as I have it by March 10th, he or she can earn a free ticket to Great Adventure for this summer.
With the science fair projects being due next Monday, the students may submit drafts to me this week to look over with respect to writing (but not the actual science)- mechanics and structure. Any 5th grader that would like for me to review his or her writing needs to submit a printout to be by Thursday morning.
Have a great week!
