I hope that you are all having an enjoyable weekend. We had a great experience at the Shrine of St. Katharine Drexel. The 5th grade class was exceptional, and we received praise from Sister Pat and shrine staff. I am very proud of them!
School is closed Monday and Tuesday for a professional development workshop at St. Michael the Archangel School in Levittown.
Wednesday is DARE class, and we will also be praying the Rosary with the kindergarten class this week and on 10/11, 10/18, and 10/25. School sweatshirt orders are due on Wednesday; click here for the order form.
There is a reading test on Wednesday; the students do not need to prepare, but the test will assess their knowledge of setting, plot (conflict & resolution) and theme, which we worked on through the Lesson 1 & 2 stories in Journeys as well as The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
There will also be a religion test (Unit 1) on Friday which is over the first outline in the students' religion section of the binder as well as Unit 1's vocabulary test from the Sadlier vocabulary book. I posted the Unit 1 vocabulary words here on Quizlet. We played a game on Quizlet Live last week to practice.
At the end of the DARE program, the students will participate in a graduation ceremony on Thursday, January 18th at 7:00 PM in the Church Auditorium. For the graduation, I am in need of a chairperson or co-chairs to coordinate the evening. If you are interested, please let me know via email. The Home and School Association provides us with some funds for the evening. We are also in need of a guest speaker who can give a 5-10 minute motivational talk to the students at the graduation. If you have any ideas or connections, please also let me know.
Please remember to keep clipping Box Tops; there is a collection bin in the front of the classroom by the students' mailboxes. The contest will run through Friday, October 27th.
We will be heading to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Thursday. The itinerary can be found here. Here are some general reminders:
Please be sure to visit the 5th grade page of the school website; on that page you will find the homework and long term assignment calendars, and pictures.
I hope that the students enjoy the next two days off, and I look forward to Thursday's trip. Have a great week!
