Thursday evening is the DARE parent meeting at 7:00 PM in our classroom; you can enter through the front door of the school. The DARE overview can be found here, and we will also be starting DARE a week later than planned, (Officer Omlor has to attend police training in Allentown), which will be Tuesday, September 29th.
5th graders have the opportunity to join Reading Olympics; our first meeting will be on Monday, September 21st from 3:30 PM-4:30 PM. If you were not able to attend the parent meeting this past Tuesday, the 5th Grade Overview, ELA 5 Overview, and Religion 5 Overview can be accessed by clicking on the respective links or visiting the 5th grade page of the school website.
This past week, I had the students set up their access to Google Classroom for both ELA and religion. Assignments that need to be submitted electronically, as well as copies of handouts and PDF versions of textbooks, are accessible through Google Classroom. I will also be going over the students' access to SpellingCity as well as TweenTribune (a collection of non-fiction articles, complied by the Smithsonian Institution, which is essentially an electronic version of
We will begin the first spelling unit as well as both lessons 1 and 2 in the reading textbook; a PDF version of the Storytown stories, as well as an audio version of the text (in MP3 format), will be posted to Google Classroom. If the students utilize the audio version it is critical that they also follow along with the text either on the screen (by opening the PDF document) or by taking home the textbook. The first spelling test will be this Friday, and the first reading test (over lessons 1 & 2) will be on Tuesday, September 22nd. Subsequent assessment dates will be posted on the calendar on the 5th grade page.
Matthew was selected as our Student Council representative; he will being our suggestions and input to the monthly meetings.
Each month, we will be recognizing two disciples of the month who demonstrate a virtue, based on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, which we will be working on as a school. The disciples of the month will be announced at the next month's First Friday Mass, and I will notify you in advance (it will be a surprise for the students) so that you can attend.
