Thursday- Gym (Gym Uniform); Home and School General Assembly Meeting 7:00 PM Cafeteria
I hope that you all had a fantastic weekend! I very much enjoyed meeting with so many of you last week to discuss the students' progress, and it was great to see many of you at Turkey Bingo today. I am pleased to announce that Josie won a dress down day for our class as a raffle prize. Also, for the first time in many years, my ticket was drawn in the raffle, and I was awarded an ice cream party for our us! I will work out the scheduling of these events in the coming weeks. We are also going to have a dress down day for winning the scarecrow contest, and the date will be forthcoming. We are not doing a dress down day this week because the students have the opportunity to earn one on Friday (see the next paragraph).
Please plan to join us on Thursday, at 7:00 PM, for our Home and School General Assembly Meeting in the cafeteria. In addition to Home and School updates, Brandon Lutz from the Bucks County Intermediate Unit will give a presentation on internet safety. Babysitting will be provided in the PreK-3 classroom, and your children will receive a dress down day, on Friday, if you attend the meeting. Parents are encouraged to bring a device to follow along with Brandon's presentation. He will be using the Nearpod app, and we ask that you download it to be prepared; It is available for iOS and Android. I will open a guest WIFI network for the evening.
I have asked the students to interview you (and their godparents, if possible), by Wednesday, so that we can write a narrative about their baptisms. The questions are on the Religion 5 Google Classroom.
I've been impressed by how the students have been playing well during indoor recess. We have had a variety of activities: yarn weaving, paper football, mancala, Connect 4, blocks, chess, etc. I rearranged the games shelf this weekend so that there is more room for these games, and I also moved the mailboxes to the front classroom so that they are more accessible. Pictures appear below so that the students know how they should be kept. I am going to remind the students, this week, to be diligent about checking mailboxes and be just a little neater during snack time.
The students did well with the poetry presentations on Friday; when I finish evaluating them, I will drop the video files (we recorded them because I like to grade them after watching them a few times) into their online assessment folders. This way, the students and parents can watch their progress over the course of the school year. I also record their oral reading/fluency test at the end of the reading units, and they will also be uploaded into their virtual assessment folders. These folders will be updated and the link resent next weekend.
If you are interested in chaperoning either field trip, please fill out the form here. We have plenty of time, but I want to check clearances and verify that we have sufficient coverage well in advance.
Mrs. Di sent out an enrollment survey last week (both electronically, here, and in the mail), and we would appreciate it being returned by November 23rd. Why so early? We need to be able to plan space and staffing for next year, and we also invite you to express any concerns that you may have so that they can be discussed and addressed. We wish to be proactive in planning for next year, but I have many things planned for our 5th graders this year and will certainly be sad to see this year end. I appreciate all that you and your students are doing to make this year great.
Wednesday, November 25th, is a half day. Dismissal will be at 12:00 PM. CARES and bus transportation will be available.
Please remember to visit the 5th Grade page of school website for picture, handouts, homework, the assessment/project calendar, and an archive of the 5th grade newsletters.
I hope that you all have an enjoyable week! I look forward to another week of productivity, prayer, community, and fun in 5th grade.
