With the holidays fast approaching, I'd like to share with you a Christmas tradition I started for the 6th Grade students. A few years back, I purchased a "class" Christmas tree. Not only does the class decorate the Christmas tree; in addition, we hold a "Secret Santa" gift exchange the day of our Christmas class party. Our Christmas class party this year will be held on Thursday, December 21st.
If all the parents and students are on board with the "Secret Santa" gift exchange, we would like to have our gift exchange during our Christmas party. However, the students will have to do the following:
a.) In school, each student must list three (3) gift ideas on a piece of paper (along with his/her name).
b.) The paper is folded and placed in a hat.
c.) Each student draws a folded list from the hat and cannot reveal who he/she picked.
d.) Each student picks only (1) gift idea (from the list) to purchase.
e.) The week prior to our Christmas party, each student brings their wrapped gift labeled/tagged (bearing the name of his/her "chosen" classmate) and places the gift under the classroom Christmas tree.
f.) During the Christmas party, each student retrieves his/her gift from under the tree and opens his/her gift without knowing who the gift came from.
I explained to the students that because it is a very expensive time of year the gift must be budgeted at $5.00 (max). In addition, all students must participate since I do not want any student left out. Therefore, I need all parents' approval in order to proceed. Please e-mail me to notify me of your approval no later than Friday, December 1st. This will allow ample time for everyone to pick names in school and shop for presents, especially shopping at our Santa Secret Workshop (beginning the week of December 4th)!
Also, as promised from my last 6th Grade Updates Notification, I wanted to provide for you the details for the "Aid for Friends" Volunteer Session & Holiday Luncheon.
Each year for the last four (4) years, Mrs. Marcinkowski and her entire volunteer staff have invited the 6th Grade class to join them at their Holiday Luncheon. This year's Luncheon will be held on Thursday, 12/14, (immediately following the volunteer session).
The Parish Rectory will be treating the 6th Grade students to a Pizza Luncheon (pizza, drink and snacks); however, if you would like to donate an appetizer, salad, entree or dessert for the Holiday Luncheon, you are more than welcome to do so. Please no pressures whatsoever. It is all voluntary!
Because of the Holiday Luncheon, 6th Grade will be over at the Auditorium that day for the 1st half of the school day. Therefore, the students will be missing their Gym and Social Studies classes. We will return to the school for our afternoon classes.
If your schedule permits, please sign up to volunteer to chaperone or donate a dish for the meal preparations & packaging. For the Holiday Luncheon, as mentioned, the Parish will be providing a pizza lunch. Please do not pack a lunch for your child(ren). If you would like, you can certainly contribute a dish for the Holiday Luncheon. Please review each respective sign-up sheet below.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email or my cell # (267-566-2057).
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
