Before I went on sick leave, the 6th Grade students were learning about calculating "Average Speed". Each year, I conduct a "hands on" activity where the students run relay races. In addition, the students record the run times for their classmates & measure the total distance of the path/track. From the data gathered for this activity, the students will complete a project.
This project is an "Integrated Learning" project since it encompasses the three (3) subject areas of Science, Technology and Math. This project entails Math "long division" calculations and Technology use of Excel charts & graphs. I would like to continue with this activity for the students. On Monday, 05/11, we will run relay races in the Gym or outside (weather permitting), measure their time (using stop watches, iPads, etc.), measure the distance (using a meter stick) covered in the race. The remainder of the project will be completed as an "in-class project" during Science and Technology class periods.
Please have your child wear their gym uniforms and sneakers to school on Monday, 05/11.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thank you for your Cooperation.
