Dear 8th Grade Families,
We are pleased to announce that, for the 2016-2017 school year, we are going to continue to give the 8th graders a choice of Spanish or Latin classes. This will allow the students to focus on their chosen language to even better prepare them for the study of either Spanish or Latin in high school.
We ask that you and your child consider his or her interest in either language as well as your child's potential choice for study in high school. Spanish is a great choice if a student intends to study Spanish in high school or is undecided; Latin is a good choice if a student intends to study Latin or another related language such as Italian or French. Please also feel free to email me if you have any questions or need guidance in choosing a language.
The Spanish course will cover the rest of the Avancemos text which will thoroughly prepare the students for success in high school Spanish I.
The Latin class will cover the concepts outlined by the National Latin Exam's Introductory Latin Syllabus which is based on the standards put forth by the American Classical League's Standards for Classical Languages; this will ensure that the students are prepared for the study of Latin I at the secondary level; the textbook used is Ecce Romani I. A course overview, which includes the syllabus, can be found here.
Once you have made a decision, please fill out this electronic form (by August 26th), and I will enter it into OptionC.
Have an enjoyable rest of the summer!
