What is a Mystery Reader?
As reading is a big part of Saint Ignatius Catholic School, Miss Rivelli has set up a weekly program called the "Mystery Reader". These readers are volunteers (usually one of the first grade student's parents) and come to the school during a predetermined time to read any book of their choice to the student.

First graders love discovering who will be the Mystery Reader while being introduced to new stories on a weekly basis!

Mrs. Valerie A. Kersten
First Grade Assistant |
The first grade class is grateful for the assistance from Mrs. Kersten, a seasoned teacher who works by rotating small groups of children in the areas of math and reading. Mrs. Kersten's years of educating children aged K through 6 in the Pennsbury school system, coupled with her dedication to Catholic school studies, have greatly benefited the first grade students.
Mrs. Kersten holds special sessions for those first grade students considered outside the average, such as accelerated learners and those facing challenges with the material.
From library to lunch, recess, reading groups, homework review, writing workshops, academic subjects, classroom attendance, and much more, Mrs. Kersten loves assisting the first grade students!
Children embrace the variety of coursework and activities offered by the Saint Ignatius first grade curriculum.
Eighth Grade Prayer Partners are responsible for bringing students to church on a regular basis, reading to them, and assisting with art projects. Miss Rivelli's Morning Meetings present a wonderful introduction to the day's schedule while giving the students a chance to ask questions and sing songs. The excitement of the weekly unknown Mystery Reader is an added surprise each Friday afternoon!
Writer's Workshop
Making books is both fun and educational as the first grade students create their own stories and learn the actual techniques that real authors use.
