The First Grade Primer
Kindergarten students at Saint Ignatius Catholic School are not just given the fundamentals of ABCs. The Saint Ignatius kindergarten year serves as an effective primer for first grade Catholic school education.

Kindergarten
A Gentle Introduction to Schooling.
Mrs. Nancy Filosa combines compassion with patience as she introduces these young minds to the world of Catholic school education. While some may have previously experienced pre-k and/or daycare, for others kindergarten represents the first time away from home for hours on end. Rules, quiet time, and homework are a novelty; each pupil progresses through kindergarten at their own pace. Mrs. Filosa has the innate ability to quickly and accurately assess each student's needs and instinctively knows just the right technique to bring out the best in your child.

Mrs. Nancy Filosa
Kindergarten Teacher |
A strong background in religion, Nancy Filosa incorporates prayer and kindness to others in her daily lectures. The academic curriculum is replete with experimentation and creativity to foster and encourage the child's development.
From reading to math, music, library, physical education, science, English, and much more, kindergarten at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Catholic School is an opportunity for your child's enrichment.
Mrs. Nancy Filosa is assisted by Mrs. Denise Kopcho, who brings her solid experience as youth educator to Saint Ignatius of Antioch Catholic School.

Mrs. Denise Kopcho
Kindergarten Assistant |
Mrs. Kopcho lends a helping hand to Mrs. Filosa with all aspects of kindergarten academics, playground activities, lunchtime monitoring, and much more.
Additionally, Mrs. Kopcho has an extensive background as math coordinator / accelerated math instructor and brings her years of Catholic school teaching to Saint Ignatius kindergarten students.
Another kindergarten assistant is "Lily", the class rabbit. Children love to pet, feed, and observe Lily's personality throughout the day. Lily has been teaching kindergarten students about rabbit behavior for years and Mrs. Filosa's class wouldn't be the same without her!

"Lily"
The Kindergarten Class Rabbit |
From class trips to monthly Mass, kindergarten students enjoy a well-rounded Catholic school education, replete with a variety of daily activities. The classroom is fully equipped with supplies, crafts, and a multitude of learning tools to give students a visual as well as hands-on approach to understanding new concepts.
An "on site" kitchen allows the children to learn about food preparation and clean-up duties, while personal "cubbies" teach students the importance of organization and individual responsibility. A daily rest time is built into the kindergarten schedule which teaches the children to systematically wind down after the lunch and recess period.
Mrs. Filosa runs her kindergarten class with respect and inspiration. She constantly piques the curiosity of these little minds and is often pleasantly surprised by the degree to which they excel. The kindergarten children know they are in good hands and are eager to return each day and see what interesting events Mrs. Filosa has planned.
Saint Ignatius of Antioch Catholic School offers a unique educational opportunity for children of kindergarten age.
