All medications must be in their original containers and must be accompanied by:
- A doctor’s written order (the prescription label suffices)
- A completed permission form signed by the parent/guardian (available in the nurse’s office)
The only exceptions to this are Tylenol, Pepto-Bismol, and Benedryl (for severe allergic reactions) for which the school nurse has standing doctor’s orders from the district’s consulting physician. Parent permission for these specific drugs is indicated by appropriate checks on the back of the emergency card.
Please note that antibiotics, which are to be administered three times a day, can usually be managed outside of school hours.
To protect all students from the danger of an accident involving medication, students are not permitted to take ANY medication in school unless under the supervision of the school nurse. To take prescription medication, a permission form is needed from parents. Specific information on the medication is also required. The nurse will send home the guidelines for medication, which must be strictly followed. Call the school nurse for more information about this policy, which is designed to protect our students.
