Welcome to PreK-3!!!
We are very excited for you to join us for the 2017-2018 school year! This letter provides you with a little more information about our day at Preschool, and it outlines some school procedures for those families who are new to St. Ignatius School. If you ever have any questions regarding procedures, the routine or anything school related, you can always contact me, Mary King at firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition to myself, Colleen Abraham and Bernadette O'Brien will be assisting in the class this year.
Arrival: Please park your car and walk your child up to the blue canopy between 8:15-8:30am. I will be there to greet the students, and walk them in to the building.
Dismissal: Students who attend the full day program will be picked up at the blue canopy at 3:00pm. The half day students will be picked up at the front office at 11:00am, or 12:00pm if they plan to stay for our
Lunch Bunch Program.
Uniform: All students in Preschool at St. Ignatius are required to wear the "gym" uniform daily. This includes gray tee, black shorts, and black sweats. Please note this is a new color scheme this year, and it is available at Flynn & O'Hara. Any combination that is suitable for the weather is fine on any given day. Notice will be sent home for days when the uniform is not required. Please send your child in with the appropriate outerwear on colder days, as we still like to get outside for some fresh air. Velcro sneakers are required for daily wear. Please label all of your child's uniform items.
Lunch/Snack: All students in Preschool should bring a healthy morning snack for each day they attend school. This should include a snack and drink. If the student is a full day student, they should also bring a lunch and an afternoon snack. Please include a drink for each "meal" they will eat while at school, and label each "meal" so we know what you would like them to eat, at what time of the day. Hot lunch will be available to the students, please visit the school webpage for options and prices. Parents place the orders on-line. Please note, our classroom is a peanut-free classroom.
Computers/Library: Our students participate in all specials offered by the school. On Thursdays our Preschool class goes to the Media Center where we will alternate each week between computers and library. If your child comes to school on Thursday, please send in a set of headphones (no earbuds) in a labeled plastic bag, which we will keep in the classroom. Each child will be able to check out a book at our school library on the Thursday that we have Library as a special. They are allowed to have the book until the following week, and notice will be sent home as a reminder to return the book. Please note that should your child not return his/her library book when it is due they will be unable to check out any books until it is returned.
Music: There are two wonderful concerts put on by the children during the school year, a Christmas Concert (Monday, 12/11 - 7pm) and a Spring Concert (Monday, 5/14 - 7pm). The children will practice for both of these concerts during their music class. More information to follow as we get closer to the dates of these concerts.
Absences: In the event that your child will be absent from school, please call the front office or send me an e-mail.
Illness: Please do not send your child to school if they exhibit any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, runny nose (any discharge other than clear), sore throat, rash, diarrhea, vomiting. Children should be free from symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.
Birthdays: We love celebrating birthdays at school! Feel free to send in a snack to share with the class on your child's special day. We would like to adhere to a peanut free classroom so please keep that in mind when sending in your snack.
Holiday Parties: Holiday parties will be planned and coordinated by our "room parents". They will contact the parents, and host the parties. If you are interested in becoming our "room parent" please let me know.
Extra Clothing: Each student in Preschool should bring in a set of spare clothing, labeled with your child's name, and sealed in a gallon plastic storage bag. In the event that their spare clothing does get used, we will send home the soiled garments, and ask that you send another pair of clean clothes the next time your child comes to school.
Alternate Caretaker: In the event that a person other than the child's parents will be picking your child up at the end of the day, please send in a signed request, or email me. If there is a person other than yourself that will regularly pick up your child (grandparent, aunt, etc.), one note at the beginning of the year will suffice.
Rest Time: Young students get tired during the school day. We have allocated, in our full day schedule, some time for resting/napping. If your child stays for the full day, please send them in with a resting mat and/or blanket. We will send these items home periodically to be cleaned and then returned.
Communication Folder: Each student will be provided with a labeled folder at the beginning of the year. This folder will serve as a communication folder, and will go back and forth between school and home each day. Please be sure to check it daily.
Picture Days: There are two picture days during the school year. The first picture day is Friday, September 22nd. Students should wear their school uniform. The second picture day is held in the spring (date TBD), and for this picture day students can wear whatever clothes they would like.
Labeling: Lunch boxes, backpacks, uniforms, spare clothes, and resting mats/blankets should all be labeled with your child's name.
Lunch Bunch: We have a great program for our Preschool students here at St. Ignatius, Lunch Bunch. At the cost of $10/week the students have the opportunity to stay an extra hour, which includes some unstructured playtime and lunch with their friends as well. This program will run daily from 11:00am-12:00pm. Payment can be made either weekly or monthly and sent in along with the "Lunch Bunch" form.
I am very excited and looking forward to the coming school year with your child. Please know I am here to help in any way I can, so please don't hesitate to contact me any time during the school year. I am looking forward to getting to know your children!
