Dear PreK-4B Parents,
Welcome to Pre-K...I am excited to be a part of the faculty at St. Ignatius and your child's teacher this year! What an exciting time this is in your child's life! I am so glad to be a part of his/her spiritual and academic development during these important formative stages. I will work hard this year to bring energy, knowledge and fun to the class every day.
The following information regarding our school procedures will provide you the details necessary to make these next first days, and hopefully the whole year, run smoothly. Please be sure to check the school website regularly for updated information and email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you ever have any questions.
Arrival and Dismissal
Please park your car and walk your child to the blue canopy between 8:15 and 8:30. We will be waiting outside the entrance to walk your child into the building.
Dismissal is also at the canopy at 3:15 or just a little before, to try and avoid the big kids as they exit as well.
** If there are ever changes regarding who will be picking up your child, or the time, please
send a note.
A Communication Folder will be sent home each day. The 2 pockets will be labeled "Return to School" and "Keep at Home." All school work, notes, office notices, and money, both to or from school, will be placed here. Please empty the Home side each night (and weekend) and be sure your child brings the folder to school each day.
Each week I will provide a "McBeth Memo" electronically. That will afford you the opportunity to print a "refrigerator copy" for your reference if you prefer. Please notify me if you need a paper copy.
The Saint Ignatius Gym Uniform and sneakers are required every day. Velcro types are acceptable until shoelace tying is mastered. On colder days, please be sure to send your child with the appropriate outerwear as we try to get them outside to play as often as possible. Please label all items! This is critical in order to avoid mix-ups. Your child's name or initials on the tag in Sharpie marker is recommended.
In the event your child is absent from school, please notify the school office and, upon his/her return to school, kindly provide a note explaining the reason which will be placed on file.
Our class will have snack time in the morning. Please send a healthy snack, drink and napkin as well as any necessary utensils.
Lunch will be held in the cafeteria at 11:30. If your child is buying lunch, please send in a note stating what your child will be having so we know. All money is handled through Option C.
Our class has Gym on Tuesday. Please be sure your child wears sneakers and the T-shirt on those days in case it gets warm and he/she wants to remove the sweatshirt.
Computers and Library
Computer and Library Day will alternate every week and will be on Thursday. Please provide headphones, labeled with your child's name. On Library weeks, your child will sign out a book to read and enjoy with you at home. Please send it back the next Library Week.
Music class will be held on Friday. The children in Pre-K will participate in a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert. During music class, the children will prepare for these concerts and more information will be sent home as the events approach.
Spanish and Art
Spanish class will be on Monday. Art class will be held on Wednesday.
You are welcome to send in a small treat for your child's birthday. We have quite a few summer birthdays, so if you would like to celebrate your child's half-birthday, please send a note to let me know which day you plan to send something in, preferably the last day your child attends school prior to their half-birthday. I will provide you information regarding food allergies so you may plan accordingly.
Classroom Wish List
Thank you for your generous donations of wipes, tissues, etc. If you wish to donate additional items to the class, the following would be greatly appreciated: baby wipes, prizes for our prize box for good behavior, 12" balloons, stamp pads, simple games and play dough. Used items are also welcome: non gluey, white TP and paper towel tubes, if that should be the brand you use, and the tube part of outgrown or holey socks (with the foot part cut off). *They make great white board erasers!
There will be two picture days during the school year. The first will be in September and the second in Spring. Information and order forms will be sent home prior to each picture day.
I will notify you who our head room parent(s) will be and the dates of expected parties. The room parent will contact you to donate and/or help out for our special class events.
First Friday Mass
Pre-K4 will join the school for First Friday Mass every first Friday of the month at 9:00. We will have special prayer buddies, who will help us during Mass. You are always welcome to join us.
Rest Time and Rest Mats
For students who remain for a full day, we will have a brief rest time in the afternoon. Your child may bring a book or SMALL special stuffed friend. Please send a mat with your child's name if they attend full day. Mats will be sent home regularly to be washed.
Can't stress it enough....Kindly label ALL your child's belongings: lunch box, backpack, uniform, jackets...
Details pertaining to trips will be sent home as they are planned. Chaperone requests, if applicable, and trip specifics will be explained on the form.
Throughout the year, there will be various opportunities to come into the classroom and help with different activities. If you have a hobby or expertise in a certain area you feel would be of interest to the children, we would love to have you visit our class for a small presentation.
However, for our children's protection, all volunteers must have their clearances on file. Information can be found on the school website.

This is a reminder that the Spring Concert is this Monday, May 15 at 7:00 pm. All students must report to the Church by no later than 6:45. Students are required to wear jeans and a solid red t-shirt that evening. Children can bring in a coloring book and crayons so they will have something to do while waiting to perform.
Any students who do not typically come to school on Monday are welcome to come to school all day (3:00 dismissal) so they can participate in the Spring Concert Dress Rehearsal at 1:00. Half-day students can stay the full day as well! Please remember to have your children wear a solid red t-shirt and jeans to school on Monday morning for the dress rehearsal.

During the past few weeks we learned about the season of Spring and we did activities and crafts that correlated with this theme . Last week the children had fun counting and sorting jelly beans during Easter Math Centers. Our Religion lesson focused on Easter and we read Jesus Has Risen and several Bible stories. Our week ended with an Easter Egg Hunt in the preschool playground!
This week we celebrated Earth Day and we talked about what we can all do to take care of our planet. We also finished learning the letter Z (wow, our last "letter of the week" !!!) and we will continue to review the alphabet letters and sounds as well as practice how to write the letters correctly. In Math the children did a great job learning how to write numbers one to ten and we will continue to reinforce Math concepts every week.
Spring pictures will be held on Wednesday, April 26. The students may dress up or down for their pictures. Lifetouch
Spring Portrait Forms were sent home this week in your child's folder.
Our Spring Concert will be held on Monday, May 15 at 7:00 in the Auditorium. Please dress your child in a a red shirt, jeans and sneakers.

Kindergarten and PreK will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday next week and we ask that each child participate in the following:
Monday, February 27 - Crazy hat OR crazy hair day. Come to school wearing a crazy hat or come in with a crazy hair style.
Tuesday, February 28 - Wear silly socks with your uniform.
Wednesday, March 1 - Participate in our Dr. Seuss Dress Down Day. Your child can wear a Dr. Seuss t-shirt OR anything red, white and black.
Thursday, March 2 - Wear your pjs.
Friday, March 3 - Bring in anything Dr. Seuss related to share with your classmates during Show n' Tell.
The Kindergarten and PreK Teachers
This is a reminder that we will have our Valentine's Day Party this Tuesday, February 14 from 10:00 to 11:00. All students are invited to come to school on Tuesday to celebrate this holiday. Half-Day students will leave at 12:00 dismissal after Lunch Bunch.
Don't forget to bring in your Valentine's Day cards by Tuesday!!! The children will have fun handing them out during the party. As mentioned before, we have 20 children in the class. Please have your children sign their names on each card.
Tuesday, the Student Council in having Crazy Sock Day. This is a free add-on sock day as a reward for collecting so many socks for the homeless. They can either wear Valentine-themed socks or any other type of crazy socks.

The Room Moms sent an email about the Valentine's Day Party on Tuesday, February 14 from 10:00 to 11:00. I just wanted to add that all students are invited to come in on Tuesday for the party and they can be dropped off between 8:15 and 8:30 AM. Please remember to send in Valentine's Cards for their classmates.

Dear Pre-K4 Parents,
Happy New Year to All! It is hard to believe that January is already upon us. For the remainder of the year, we will continue preparing for Kindergarten, by practicing our letters, sounds, numbers and writing. We will focus on writing our name correctly, and will even begin to learn and recognize simple sight words.
In order to accomplish these tasks, we will not be having afternoon snack starting on Monday, January 9th. We recommend packing your children a more substantial lunch because we will only have one morning snack. This has been implemented to help students adjust to next year's schedule.
Please make sure to send your child in to school with their winter coat, along with hats and gloves in the event we go outside to play. Remember to label all items in case an item is misplaced.

As you know, we will have our Christmas Concert Dress Rehearsal this Monday, December 12 at 1:00. As I mentioned in a previous email, all students can come to school on Monday. If your child is a half-day student, he/she can stay for the full day as well (3:00 dismissal) and participate in the rehearsal. Please remember to have your child come to school dressed in black bottoms and a white top. The Concert is at 7:15 pm and you can drop your child off at the Church by no later than 7:00.

Here are a few reminders for December:
- Our class will go to Santa's Shop on Monday, December 5. The children have a fun time shopping for their family members. If your child does not come to school on Monday, we will bring your child to Santa's Shop the next day. You will receive information soon about this event.
- On Friday, December 9 our school is having a Box of Joy Dress Down Day. Your child can wear red and/or green and donate $1.00 to raise money to ship our Boxes of Joy to families for Christmas. Again, thank you so much for all the items you donated!
- Our Christmas Concert is on Monday, December 12 at 7:15 in the Auditorium. All students are welcome to come to school on Monday so they can participate in the Dress Rehearsal at 1:00. The music teacher would like PreK to wear black bottoms (pants or skirts) and a white top to school for the dress rehearsal. I recommend that you send your child to school with a different white shirt for the dress rehearsal so the "good one" doesn't get dirty. On the night of the Concert, please drop your child off at the Church by no later than 7:00. After the show is over, you can pick him/her up in the Church.
- There is no school on Tuesday,December 13 due to Parent/Teacher Conferences. You can sign up on Option C if you would like to schedule a conference.

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving! In class, we began talking about the first Thanksgiving feast shared between the pilgrims and Native Americans. The children had fun making a turkey craft, writing about what they are thankful for, reading Turkey Trouble and singing silly turkey songs. We even did the Turkey Pokey! In Math we are doing pattern and counting activities that relate to our Fall/Thanksgiving theme. We will continue to learn a new letter each week and review letters from earlier in the year. Next week I will begin to assess the children on letters and shapes in preparation for December report cards.
Please remember that there is a 12:00 dismissal on Wednesday, November 23 (please only pack a morning snack) and classes will not resume until Tuesday, November 29. Additionally, Santa's Secret Shop is scheduled for Monday, December 5 (more information to come in the upcoming weeks).

Thank you for all your donations for the Box of Joy charity. We collected enough gifts so that two girls and one boy will have a very special Christmas!!! In addition, we are still collecting canned goods for the Thanksgiving Food Drive this week.

Please bring in your child's resting mat on Monday in a plastic bag labeled with your child's name on it.
As a reminder, please drop your child off at the regular time on Monday. Our Halloween Party will start at 12:00 and our room moms have many fun activities planned for the class. Your child can dress down in orange and/or black and I recommend comfortable clothes that will fit under his/her costume. Please remember to send your child's costume to school in the morning in a bag labeled with your child's name on it. After the party, we will help the children put on their costumes and get ready for the Halloween Parade at 1:30. The children can stay until 3:00 but you are also welcome to take them home after the parade if it is more convenient for you.
We are still collecting items for the Box of Joy charity. All donations are due by November 4. We appreciate your generosity!
Our school is also collecting canned goods for our annual Thanksgiving Drive and you can begin to send these items to school this week.

Pre-K 4B will be having their annual Halloween party on Monday, October 31st at 12 PM. All children are welcome to come to school on Monday, even if it is not their regularly scheduled day. If you would like to help make this party extra special, please sign up to for the item you would like to bring. Please bring enough for each of the 20 children in the class. We know everyone loves to help, so if you don't get to contribute this time, there will be more parties in the future!
Please send in your contribution Monday morning when you drop off your child. Don't forget to send their costume in a bag, so we can help them put it on later in the day.
Due to the small space in the classroom, parents and siblings cannot be accommodate at this event. However, the school costume parade will be at 1:30, in the front of the school, ALL are welcome to watch the kids show off their costumes as they walk to the rectory for a special treat. Parents with half day students can take their child home after the parade.

The St. Ignatius Student Council will be participating in a Box of Joy Collection in conjunction with Cross Catholic Outreach. We will be collecting items to help poor boys and girls in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala. For this charity, we ask that you help these children by sending in one or two donated items to fill two shoebox- sized boxes (one for a boy and one for a girl). If we have extra items, we will fill another box for one more child. The Student Council will collect these items on Friday, November 4 so we ask that you send your donations in by no later than Wednesday, November 2.

The class is VERY excited about their trip tomorrow to Snipes Farm! Please remember to have your children wear their school uniform and bring a brown bag lunch. Please drop your children off at the regular time (8:15). We will be returning to school at 1:00 so half-day students can be picked up at this time. For full day students, please remember to pack an afternoon snack in a separate bag.
We started out our week reading books abut firefighters and we learned about fire safety. The class learned how to dial 911 in case of an emergency and talked about what to do if there is a fire (stop, drop and roll). We finished our safety lesson with a fire truck craft. Our letter of the week was A and we practiced the sound and how to write it and came up with lots of words that begin with the letter A. Our Religion Lesson was about belonging to a family and this tied in to our ELA theme. In Math we did a pattern activity and even did a fun a firefighters counting song.

Our school will have a dress down day this Friday, October 14 for Breast Cancer Awareness. Students should wear something pink. Please bring in $1.00 and all proceeds will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
