Sacraments Given at Saint Ignatius Catholic School

Communion, Penance, and Confirmation are offered at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Catholic School
  • Reconciliation
    Received in second grade, this sacrament allows the child to confess his or her sins to the priest and teaches God's unconditional forgiveness. During the school year children regularly attend Mass during which confessions are made.

  • Eucharist
    Also known as the First Holy Communion, the Communion is one of the sacraments offered in second grade at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Schoolcelebration of the Eucharist signifies the first time when children are permitted to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. This sacrament brings the recipient closer to God while nourishing them spiritually. The sacrament of Eucharist is also received in second grade.

  • Confirmation
    A sacrament of mature Christian commitment and initiation, Confirmation is received in sixth grade with the intent of reinforcing the gifts of Baptism. Children prepare for Confirmation by understanding what it means to be a Christian under the Catholic faith. This ceremony is traditionally administered by the Bishop and recipients are accompanied by a sponsor or witness. Confirmation names are chosen as part of the celebration to signify the candidate's newfound Christian identity.

Baptism - Traditionally received soon after birth, the sacrament of Baptism removes Original Sin and substitutes it with sanctifying grace.

Marriage - The sacred exchanging of vows, known as Holy Matrimony, announces a couple's dedication to God, family, and their lifelong union and commitment.

Holy Orders - Ordination is when a priest vows to dedicate his life to Catholicism, bring other Catholics through sacramental rites, and proclaim the Gospel.

Anointing the Sick - Also known as Extreme Unction or Last Rites, anointing the sick is a sacrament intended to heal the sick, physically, mentally, and spiritually.
