Class News:

I hope that you all had an enjoyable weekend and Catholic Schools Week. Thank you all for your contributions to our class birthday boxes! I also want to thank you for your support of Catholic education here at St. Ignatius. I feel very privileged to be working with such a pleasent, productive, lively, and joyful group of fifth graders and their parents.

Congratulations to AJ and Alex who were recognized as our Disciples of the Month for January; the virtue for February is respect.

Last week, we began a Novena to St. John Neumann for our parish and school as well as each students' special intentions. We wrap up this week.

We will be choosing new elective classes this week; the catalog will be sent out early in the week.

We will be starting a new novel, Dear Mr. Henshaw. It is similar in format to Dear Levi, in that the book is a collection of letters (in this case to an author). The students will be writing letters to an author of their choice; I will send the letters to the authors and we will see if we receive a response. Last year, four of the students received letters back.

Starting this week, we will be testing spelling on Thursdays; this will help make our Friday schedule less rushed. This week, I will also be updating assessment folders as well as adding our Catholic Schools Week photos to our classroom page; please check back by the end of the week.

The 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program. Any 5th graders who read six or more hours (outside of school) and log it by February 26th, 2018 will receive a ticket to Six Flags Great Adventure. To participate, please return this reading log by the due date.

Please be sure to visit the 5th grade page of the school website; on that page you will find the homework and long term assignment calendars, and pictures.

Have a great week!
