8th Grade February Updates

Dear 8th Grade Families,

I hope everyone managed to get some sleep after that nail-biter of a game! It's still hard to believe the Eagles are champions again after 57 years. And I hope that everyone enjoyed Friday's talent show. The 8th Graders' performance was fantastic!

On that note, as you are probably aware, Father Brownholtz has given St. Ignatius a Pastor Holiday the day of the Eagles parade. As of right now, the Eagles Parade will take place at 11am on Thursday. The route will begin at Pattison and Broad and will continue to the Philadelphia Art Museum.

As we approach the latter half of the year, the 8th Graders will be preparing for several different events: Passion Play, Terra Novas, the Spring Field Trip, and Graduation! Hard to imagine that Graduation is only four and a half months away! I mentioned in an earlier update that the 8th Graders decided to go to New York City for their field trip. After discussing some ideas with the students, I worked with our field trip coordinator, Denise Hay, on an itinerary and date.

Please note in your calendar that the date for the 8th Grade Spring Field Trip is Wednesday, May 16th.

Our itinerary is as follows:

7:30AM Depart school

9:00AM Water Taxi

9:30AM Visit the 9/11 Memorial & then the Observation Deck

11:00AM Arrive at the Metropolitan; time for lunch on your own and self-guided visit

2:00PM Visit Madame Tussauds followed by free time in Times Square with parents

4:00PM Dinner at the Hard Rock Café

7:00PM Approximate time of arrival back to school

I will let you know immediately if anything changes. Prices will follow shortly; we are just waiting on a reply from the Metropolitan.

We would like to have each student accompanied by a parent. As I mentioned in the fall, I will allow for one parent per student unless there is room for additional parents. Then it will be on a first come first serve basis. Please use this form to sign up to be a chaperone for this trip. It's the 8th Graders last one at St. Ignatius, so I hope you will be able to join us!

As a reminder, all chaperones need to be certified. Please use this site for further information regarding volunteer certification.

Upcoming Events:

2/9 - 7th & 8th Grade Dance at 7:30pm

2/14 - Ash Wednesday

2/16-2/19 - No School

2/23 - 8th Grade led Stations of the Cross at 2:00pm

3/2 - First Friday Mass

3/9 - End of Second Trimester

3/15 - Report Cards Issued

3/16-3/23 - Terra Nova Testing/Passion Play After School Practice

I hope everyone had a great Super Bowl weekend and that you and your families enjoy the Eagles Parade!
